Yes, No, Maybe? This is a difficult question to answer. The water from Milwaukee generally ranges from 8 – 12 grains hard. Previously, New Berlin had water that ranged from 18 – 30 grains. So while the water is only about 1/2 the hardness, it is still hard water and will still cause some calcium buildup on fixtures, dishware etc…
What can be done, is that the softener can be set to regenerate about 1/2 as often saving you about 50% on salt usage. It is really a win / win situation. You still get the benefits and feel of soft water, while saving salt. If you are renting a softener, this adjustment is done free of charge, if you own your water treatment system, we charge an adjustment /service check up fee of $25.00.
For those customers concerned with the drinking quality of the Milwaukee city water, we can always add a reverse osmosis system to their home.
We are located in Waukesha, WI and service most of Southeastern WI. Water quality can vary by municipality and also based on a public water supply vs. a private well. Whatever your case may be, Soft Water, Inc in Waukesha can likely help.
We keep our service areas much smaller than the competition in order not to extend out superior service beyond our capabilities. We service communities in the following counties:
While we do service areas of Milwaukee County such as Franklin 53132 and Hales Corners 53120, the majority of Milwaukee county is serviced by Lake Michigan Water which although hard (10-12 grains), does not cause the severe problems that the much harder water of Waukesha, Washington and Racine Country can cause. However, if you are accustomed to the feel and benefits of soft water and would like to protect your appliances and fixtures from any calcium buildup you will most likely want a water softener.
If you would like a water softener and are supplied by Lake Michigan water, please give us a call and we will be glad to assist you.
Water described as “hard” means it is high in dissolved minerals, specifically calcium and magnesium. Hard water is not a health risk, but a nuisance because of its tendancy to cause mineral buildup in water pipe and heating systems, and its poor soap and/or detergent performance when compared with soft water.
In the Waukesha area, water is generally between 16-24 grains per gallon hard. This is considered high and if not treated with a water softener will lead to hard water deposits on dishes, mineral deposits on glasses and silverware, decreased efficiency from your water heater and calcium deposits on plumbing fixtures. By purchasing a salt efficient Fleck control water softener from Soft Water, Inc in Waukesha, you can eliminate these hard water problems and help protect your dishware, plumbing fixtures and make cleaning easier.
Soft Water will test your water for Hardness, Iron and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). This is done at no charge. If you would like a further analysis of your water, we can also test for other things such as bacteria, nitrates, lead etc, but there is a charge for this service as we have to send it into a lab.
Please give us a call at (262) 547-3866 and we will be happy to discuss your water problems with you.
